Diancui is a Chinese court craft: feather inlay set into jewellery and ornament. The workshops closed. The knowledge scattered. Much of the surviving work now sits in museum collections. New work is rare.
Aether's Atelier brings the technique back into jewellery a shop can sell now. Naturally shed peacock and parrot feathers become colour, not waste. Their blue, teal and green come from structure, not pigment. Turn a piece and the colour moves. No gemstone repeats it.
The craft is quieter than the colour. Each barb is cut, paired and placed by hand. The direction of the feather changes the light. The colour beside it changes how it reads. Feather must meet metal cleanly, without losing its edge.
Every piece is individually inlaid. No two are identical.
Beauty this obvious should not be this rare.
Aether's Atelier is based in London, where each piece is designed and inlaid into gold plated settings. Our craft research studio in Canton works with master craftsmen to study and refine heritage inlay techniques.
