Classic modern jewellery influenced by Tudor style

The National Portrait Gallery Jewellery collection from Licensed to Charm is  a range of designs inspired by the details from paintings in the gallery, starting with stunning portraits of famous Tudors.

These beautiful necklaces and earrings were inspired by the ruff worn in the mid-16th century into the 17th century and painted throughout this time. The ruff is probably the item of clothing that is associated most with Elizabethan England. The jewellery features a delicate lace design created using a laser etching process on a silver sheet. 18ct gold vermeil is used for the plating and the white disc in the double pendant is cut from mother-of-pearl.

The Latin inscription on the other pieces is 'AMOR ET VIRTUTE' inspired by Sir Walter Ralegh’s motto ‘Amor et Virtute’, meaning love and virtue, is inscribed in the top left-hand corner of his portrait which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery and has been reproduced on the pendant and earrings.

This beautiful range of sustainably and ethically produced silver jewellery is designed and handmade in Britain using Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil.
