Embellish With Relish - bringing your cupboard essentials to life

Embellish With Relish is a cookbook from both the heart and the home. Using kitchen staples crafted by Hawkshead Relish, it features a variety of dishes that draw on familiar and exciting flavours from around the world to liven up mealtimes at the family table.
With our increasingly busy lives and hectic schedules, it can be hard for many families to sit down together and eat a home-cooked meal at the end of the day. Embellish With Relish shows how easy it can be to cook and prepare delicious food for your nearest and dearest.
The book brings together simple but satisfying meals packed full of flavour, including family favourites, tried and tested classics, inventive creations and a selection of contemporary dishes with a twist so there’s something for everyone. Recipes for Spiced Garlic Kiev and Tex-Mex Cottage Pie provide savoury inspiration, alongside some seriously tempting sweet treats such as Salted Caramel Brownies and Raspberry Bakewell which put Hawkshead Relish creations like Raspberry & Vanilla Jam, Salted Caramel Sauce and Hot Garlic Pickle to good use.
"Hawkshead Relish has the most amazing range of products, but the story of this family business is also extraordinary. Their products are so versatile and are truly part of the cook’s armoury. They are creative but above all really tasty, and the business is a great ambassador for Cumbria." – Dave Myers, Hairy Biker
Hawkshead Relish is a hugely successful family-run business based in the heart of the English Lake District. With stunning food photography and more than 50 individual recipes, Embellish With Relish reveals a glimpse into the inner workings of this multi-award-winning company and celebrates the inspiring people behind the company.
Mark and Maria Whitehead established their venture in 1999 against all odds, transforming great local ingredients and Mark’s knack with flavours into an ever-growing range of pickles, preserves, ketchups, jams and sauces from the little café they owned back then, which had been hit hard by foot and mouth. Alongside royal recognition in the form of a visit from HRH Prince Charles and MBEs for services to the food industry, they have gained famous fans including TV’s Hairy Bikers thanks to the quality and integrity at the heart of everything they do.
Food and drink journalist and presenter Nigel Barden is very proud to champion Embellish With Relish in the foreword. “My role in life is to champion artisan producers and Hawkshead is exactly the type of company to exalt. The founders, their daughters Abbie and Izzy, and the whole Hawkshead Relish team should be proud of their huge achievements. To capture something of the World Heritage Site that is the Lake District in every one of the 5,000 jars they turn out daily by hand is pretty remarkable.”
The recipes in Embellish With Relish are inspired by Mark and Maria’s travels around the world, as well as their family dinner table, and of course the relishes they produce from their 16th century barn on the shores of Esthwaite Water. They want to share the delights of the great food they’ve enjoyed along the way, and inspire people to embellish with relish!
“The idea behind this collection of recipes is to make people think a little differently about that stash of relishes most of us have sitting in the cupboard,” says Maria. “We’ve split the recipes into ten chapters, each starring one of our most popular Hawkshead Relish products and we hope everyone finds something to have a go at that will brighten up your family mealtimes.”
Embellish With Relish is a 160-page paperback and retails at £16. It will be available to purchase from Amazon, bookshops including Waterstones and online from www.mezepublishing.co.uk.
