CALL TO ORDER

Even thought it’s the hardest working room of the house, your utility space need not look like this is the case. Create rules for where things live with smaller storage boxes which can be stacked one on top of each other to make the most of shelf space.

SIMPLE SCHEMES

Choose a neutral colour palette to make sure the overall feeling is one of calm. Crisp whites, natural linen and smart stripes suggest that every is in order and under control.

STORAGE THAT’S SMARTER

When space is limited, storage that provides more than one function is a win-win. Iron boards are a prime example of something that needs to be accessible but can tske up unnecessary room. A laundry shelf with hooks for an ironing board as well as space for the iron itself, is a good solution. Treat your iron to a smart new cover and you’ll be pleased to have it on show.

RESPONSIBLY REUSEABLE

With concerns for wastage and single-use plastics being front of mind, and washing piling up on a daily basis, laundry might seem like a tricky area to tackle. However, reusable glass bottles mean that laundry liquid, fabric conditioner and cleaning solutions can be stored whilst reducing the recycling needed. Create a bottle shelf of all your liquids and use a pen to mark what’s what for when you need it.

UTILITY UNITS

Freestanding units are a great way to maximise space with the utility room. Use soft baskets to hold things tidily and to add some welcome texture in an ordinarily functional space.
