Caroline Barnes Ceramics Stand CR16
Decorative Porcelain Buttons, Brooches, Greeting Cards & Framed Collections
Press Information
Caroline’s studio is based in rural West Dorset on the edge of the Jurassic coast – a fitting environment to someone who is inspired by both coastal and botanical themes. Caroline established her workshop in 1993.
Educated in Ceramics & Silver-smithing Caroline also has an MA in Museum Studies, an influence you will see in the curation & presentation of her framed tile collections. Ordering & collating feature heavily as specimens are carefully illustrated & fired onto bright white porcelain. Using vintage prints, her own drawings & photographs Caroline uses a ceramic transfer process to decorate her ceramics.
Influenced by the Victorian’s obsession with capturing & framing specimens, particularly insects, butterflies & moths Caroline has created a more ethical approach to the appreciation of nature.
Buttons have become a popular addition to her range with an increasing demand from crafters, knitters & stitchers who are keen to find an unusual accessory for their creations. With the demise of haberdashery stores Caroline has found a hungry audience in a new generation of textile makers. Caroline now produces exclusive ranges for retailers and designers across the country.
A popular greeting card range includes images of insects, dragonflies as well as a selection of British butterflies. Brooches complete the selection, all presented as affordable but really special giftware. As each item is handmade there will be slight variations in each piece.
Current stockists include The National Trust, Cancer Research UK, Rick Stein Padstow, The Alexandra Hotel Lyme Regis & The Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
Caroline also produces regular commissions for interior designers, individuals & the corporate sector.
