Fashion finish

01-Feb-2018

by EMILY CHALMERS

When the cat walk comes home, fashion’s finishing touches will jazz up a room in a jiffy. Frills, trimmings, ruffles - all add a bit of the unexpected and bring fresh personality to a room. These well-considered touches add that bit of flair and glamour to our home styling.

A simple window drape comes to life with a bobble edge (keep the curtain length longer, for that oh-so-now maxi effect), while a deep fringe will transform a (hmmmm…. velvet?) chair. Alongside these plush fabrics and elegant shapes, metallic touches are jewellery for the home and a few more buttons are often welcome at this time of year.

While we’re looking to our wardrobes to inspire our interiors, blogger Victoria Smith at SFGirl hosts her fabulous Wear This There column. Drooling over this recent post, I’m dreaming of hanging out at the newly opened Hoxton Hotel Paris. Want to join me?

Meanwhile, I do love a bit of lace at the table and a ruffle or two on my linen….

… and if I feel really glamorous this season I may well consider bringing the party home with a touch of disco ball decor!

But those who know me will probably agree I’m more likely to be found dipping my toe into tie-dye. I love the idea of starting off with a crafty linen tea towel and seeing where it takes me. And it only takes a length of sequinned fabric to whip up a pretty cushion!
